5 Stages

Backward design is an iterative process with the following 5 main steps. It's important to align all of the 5 stages using the learning goals.

  1. Understand learners in context
  1. Target explicit goals
  1. Focus assessment on progress toward goals
  1. Design instruction to reach goals
  1. Plan evaluation research to provide evidence of implementation and impact
